Our Vision

Why?

The urgency of species loss and fragmentation inspired CEAPY founder, Simón Clopton to purchase Rancho San Nicolás and to restore facilities and boundaries to protect the fauna and flora that depend on the land.

Who?

CEAPY relies on its Board of Directors, researchers, university connections and of course donors who support our work.

Scientific Advisor

Rodolfo Dirzo

  • LinkedIn

Rodolfo Dirzo’s scientific work examines the study of species interactions in tropical ecosystems from California, Latin America, and other tropical areas of the world. Recent research highlights the decline of animal life (“defaunation”), and how this affects ecosystem processes/services (e.g. disease regulation). He teaches ecology, natural history, conservation biology, and biocultural diversity at undergraduate and graduate levels at Stanford, and conducts science education programs with underserved children in the Bay Area and our study sites. Dirzo lab includes undergrads, graduate students, postdocs, and visiting scholars from the US, and many other countries.

Researcher

Luis Abdala‐Roberts

Luis studies tri-trophic interactions between plants, insect herbivores and their natural enemies in both natural and managed settings. I seek to determine the contribution of different sources of "bottom-up" variation in plant traits influencing consumers, the mechanisms by which these effects propagate up food chains, as well as the potential for "top-down" feedbacks influencing plant evolution.
